House of the Future in the Cloud
19 Maio 2014 - 17 Maio 2017
Sustainability and social responsibility at the Portuguese Communications Foundation, with a contribution from the Portugal Telecom (PT) Foundation.
Since its creation, the Portuguese Communications Foundation (PCF) has played an active and important role in fostering and disseminating projects and technological solutions which promote all kinds of social inclusion.
The PCF and PT Foundation are also equally committed to the continuous process of finding, developing and disseminating new solutions for accessing telecommunications that are increasingly designed and adapted for people with special needs.
Therefore, together with the PT Foundation, the PCF aims at contributing more extensively to attaining these new solutions. One which both Foundations are very proud of is House of the Future. When experiencing this space fully, visitors can try new technological solutions that allow senior citizens and those with special communication needs to improve their autonomy and quality of life.
There are many reasons why this latest version of the House of the Future can be seen as a continuation of a project that is constantly adapting and evolving to give the public realistic glimpses into the near and more sustainable future.
History of House of the Future…
Our homes are, almost by definition, places of sharing. They’re where family and friends perform a great multitude of individual and collective activities. In these modern times, it’s of increasing necessity that the infrastructures that support daily life integrate ways of converging with services outside the domestic realm. These include education, employment, medical assistance and collective interaction.
In keeping with this principle, the concept of convergence was added to House of the Future in 2011, creating its version 5.0. The pillars that were set in 2003 with the completion of the first House of the Future were connectivity, interactivity, inclusivity and sustainability. These remain just as important today as they did then. The new version made it possible, however, to demonstrate the effect of convergence brought about by adapting home automation management and security platforms and to improve de operability of various points throughout the house by unifying various telecommunications equipment via a common interface, by exchanging information via customised services and by converging grouped and shared contents via a single access profile.
As a result of the development that society is currently undergoing through the rapid evolution of electronics and information systems, there has been a strong rise in people’s expectations in terms of comfort, safety, resource management and reliability of communications.
The architecture and decor of the house itself adapts conceptually, turning its liveability and usability into an example of “spatial convergence”.
The exhibition can only be visited in the company of a guide from the Educational Department. To book a visit, consult the section on Useful Information. You can also join a guided visit without booking on the following days: Mon., Thurs. and Sat. at 4.00 pm.
