World Post Day 2014 in Portugal
The World Post Day 2014, on the 9th October, was celebrated in Portugal with a institutional ceremony organized by FPC – Fundação Portuguesa das Comunicações (Portuguese Communications Foundation).
Along this commemorative session the chairman of FPC, CTT – Correios de Portugal and ANACOM highlighted the importance of the WPD and spoke about the current situation of the Post sector in Portugal.
The prizes for the “2014 Letter-writing competition” were awarded to the age group 9-11 and 12-15 and the “2015 Letter-writing competition” topic was announced.
Also a philatelic emission about Tapeçarias de Portalegre (Portalegre Tapestries) was launched and this first edition of stamps was signed by prestigious personalities of the sector.
The Infrastructures, Transport and Communications Secretary of State, Sérgio Monteiro, closed this session.
After, it took place the opening of the exhibition Tapeçarias de Portalegre – Arte com Selo Português (Portalegre Tapestries – Art with a Portuguese Stamp); the area about the Universal Postal Union (UPU) history and activities and the new core Mecanização Postal (Postal Mechanisation) included in the permanent exhibition Vencer a Distância – Cinco Séculos de Comunicações em Portugal (Overcoming Distance: Five Centuries of Communications in Portugal).
The World Post Day was also celebrated during the week of 6 to 11 of October by schools and colleges that participated in the activities organized by the Educational Department of the Museu das Comunicações.
