17 May 2005 @ 10:00 - 31 December 2050 @ 18:00

“Overcoming Distance – Five Centuries of Communications in Portugal”, the long-term exhibition at the Communications Museum, showcases the evolution and refinement of techniques that have enabled humanity to achieve faster and more efficient communication.
It is a journey-built step by step, highlighting the importance of communication in transforming our daily lives and driving the economic and social development of communities.
The exhibition reveals how heads of state from various eras and nations, as well as major noble and clerical households, utilized all available resources to overcome distance and communicate more quickly and effectively.
Organized chronologically, it aims to document and unveil the history of the sector using unique collections in Portugal, whose origins date back to the first communications museum in 1877, then called the Postal Museum.
From the institutionalization of postal services as a public service in the 16th century to telecommunications networks and infrastructures, information systems, the internet, mobility, and media.
Overcoming Distance is further enriched by the Philately section, featuring iconic philatelic issues and original drawings signed by some of the visual artists who have shaped the history of stamps in the country.
This is a step-by-step journey that underscores the significance of postal services and telecommunications in transforming daily life and fostering the economic and social development of communities, countries, and territories.
